Of course you figured out that all the previous songs were on the soundtrack to Say Anything..., and you probably knew that "Skankin' to the Beat" was originally going to be the song playing on Lloyd Dobler's boom box in that memorable scene. Thank goodness they went with "In Your Eyes." But one song was originally planned for the film, and got cut. It was The Smithereens' "A Girl Like You", which was going to be the theme of the film (and by some reports, was even going to be the song playing on the boom box).

But Cameron Crowe realized that the song's lyrics were too close to the plot of the movie - Smithereens' lead singer and songwriter Pat DiNizio had gotten an early cut of the script and wrote the song not just for the movie, but about the movie. In the end, it all worked out just fine. The song still became one of the band's biggest hits!
