Congratulations!
SAUSAGE ROLLS is absolutely correct.
Why “Sausage Rolls”?
Each of the songs you uncovered in the previous puzzles have some notoriety with the UK achievement, the Christmas Number One, meaning, occupying the number one spot open the UK Singles Chart during the week that includes Christmas Day. Often, the best-selling single of the year. It’s become such a battle that the film Love, Actually included it as a subplot in one of its many storylines. Here are each of the achievements:
Bohemian Rhapsody: This song was the first song to reach the number one spot in two different years, in 1975, when it first came out, and in 1991, due to the popularity of Wayne’s World
That record was broken by Wham’s Last Christmas in 2023 and 2024, where it also achieved the feat of being the first consecutive Christmas Number One
The Spice Girls were the first to have three consecutive Christmas Number Ones in 1996, 1997 and 1998, with 2Become1, Too Much, and Goodbye.
And one of the first hotly competitive Christmas Number One battles took place in 1973 between Slade’s Merry Xmas Everybody and Wizzard’s I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday. Slade won.
But again, why Sausage Rolls?
From 2018 to 2022, the Christmas Number One spot has been held by LadBaby, a novelty/parody song creator, who has done parodies of songs like We Built This City, Don’t Stop Believin’ and I Love Rock and Roll, all centered around the theme of…you guessed it: Sausage Rolls. Make sure to check out his 2021 entry, Sausage Rolls For Everyone, featuring guest vocals by Ed Sheeran and Elton John, who also dressed as the titular pastries for the video.
